Video to text, on this page

If you searched for video to text, a free transcript, or SRT and VTT, this is the same upload. There is no second site and no separate video-to-text URL competing with the homepage.

Transcribe a file in 3 steps

  1. Upload the file

Choose mp4, mov, webm, mkv, mp3, wav, m4a, aac, ogg, or flac from your computer. The cap is 60 minutes and 500 MB. A YouTube link or any other URL is refused, so the file has to be one you already hold and have the right to transcribe. Duration is read from the file. A length typed in the browser is not the number we bill. If the duration cannot be read, export wav, mp3, m4a, or mp4 and upload that copy.

  2. Review the timed lines

Speech becomes lines with a start and an end. The recommended engine is OpenAI gpt-transcribe, not Whisper. You can fix a misspelled name or a wrong word. The timestamps stay where they were. The full text is visible in the browser as a preview. That preview is not the watermark-free download. Billing rounds the duration up to the next minute and holds those minutes when the job starts. If the job fails, those minutes return to the account.

  3. Download TXT, SRT, or VTT

Download the edited lines as plain text, SRT, or VTT. The three files share one transcript. There is no burned-in caption video, no human proofreading pass, and no meeting bot. A download is allowed only while the account still has a minute balance above zero. The free allowance is 5 minutes for the life of the account, not 5 minutes every month. After that, one-time PayPal packs add 10, 30, 100, or 300 minutes.

Where a file becomes text

Transcribe video to text for editors

A rough cut is faster when the words are already on a timeline. Upload the interview or the B-roll with talk, fix the names, and download SRT for the editor. You are not buying a seat for the month, and you are not waiting on a proofreader. The same lines can also leave as VTT if the player wants that caption file. Keep the source under 60 minutes. Longer recordings need a split before upload.

Transcribe video to text for students

A lecture recording is easier to quote when each sentence has a time. Upload the file from the class folder, read the preview, and correct course names before you export. The first 5 minutes on the account are free for life, which covers a short clip and shows you the shape of the transcript. A full watermark-free file needs minutes left. Paste nothing from a streaming site. This page accepts a file, not a link.

Transcribe video to text for podcasters

Show notes start from the spoken track. Upload the episode audio or the video master, scan the timed lines, and download TXT for the post plus SRT if you also publish a video. Identical bytes uploaded again inside about 7 days reuse the stored transcript and are not charged a second time. Delete the job from your library when you want the media gone sooner than that window.

What the free transcript includes

Free transcript, then a paid file

Yes, there is a free transcript: 5 lifetime minutes and a full on-screen preview. No, the watermark-free TXT, SRT, and VTT are not free once the balance is zero. Holding one unused minute lets you export. Spending the last minute on a job still leaves the preview. Packs are $2.99 for 10 minutes, $4.99 for 30, $6.99 for 100, and $14.99 for 300, charged once through PayPal. Checkout can be closed by the operator. When it is closed, the prices may be hidden and the button will not sell.

SRT and VTT without a second pass

SRT and VTT are exports of the lines you edited, not a separate recognition. Change the words, save, and download again. The times do not move. The model disclosure page names gpt-transcribe. Whisper is not the default engine. Media and the hash cache are kept for about 7 days. You are responsible for having the right to upload the recording.

How a minute is counted

A billed minute is the file duration divided by 60, rounded up. A 61-second file costs 2 minutes. A file of exactly 60 seconds costs 1. The 5 free minutes are five of those billed minutes, not a promise that a long recording plays for five minutes at no charge. The hold happens when the job starts, not when you download.

Questions

Read a free transcript, then export SRT or VTT

The timed lines, the free allowance, and the caption files all come from the same upload. Nothing here is a monthly seat.

A free transcript with times attached

Each line keeps a start and an end. Change a word and the times stay put. The preview shows the full text even when a download is locked. That split is deliberate: reading is part of the free transcript, and the watermark-free file is the paid step.

SRT and VTT from the same lines

TXT, SRT, and VTT are three downloads of one edit. There is no burned-in subtitle video and no human proofread. Minutes are one-time PayPal packs: $2.99 for 10, $4.99 for 30, $6.99 for 100, and $14.99 for 300. They stay on the account until you spend them.

Your file is not a YouTube link

Upload a file you have the rights to use. Links are refused. Media is removed after about 7 days, and you can delete a transcript sooner. An identical file inside that window can reuse the stored text without a second charge.
